Some of the major causes of short – term (acute) and persistent (chronic) coughs are:

(2) A lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) that affects your lungs or lower airways. Examples are: acute bronchitis or pneumonia.

(4) Inhalation of irritants: Acute exposure to some fumes, dust and vapours that can cause throat inflammation and airway that cause cough.
(5) Hay fever (or allergic rhinitis): It is usually associated with dry cough, sneezing and runny nose.
(6) Lung clot (or plumonary embolism): It is a potentially life – threatening condition where blood clots move, usually from from leg veins to the lungs causing sudden shortness of breath and sometimes coughing.

(10) CELASTRUS PANICULATUS (Inteclect tree in English; Vambe in Tiv; Rimi in Hausa) Grind CELASTRUS PANICULATUS seeds into powder. Take 1 pinch of the seeds powder with lukewarm water once a day for 7 days.
