Stages of Hepatitis A
Hepatitis A has four (4) stages. However, not every patients or sufferers pass through all these stages.
(1) Stage 1 (Incubation period) At this stage, you may transfer the virus on to other people and you may not have symptoms (asymptomatic). It takes between 2 to 6 weeks after you had been infected for symptoms to manifest.
(2) Stage 2 : It last around 10 days. Signs and symptoms are:

Stage 3: During this stage you may have symptoms that can last for 1 to 3 weeks but can last up to 12 weeks. They include :
- Yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes known as JAUNDICE.
- Dark yellow urine (pee) and gray coloured stools (poo).
- Body itching and
- Your liver, spleen and lymph nodes may feel swollen and sore.
Stage 4: This stage is known as CONVALESCENT PHASE or RECOVERY STAGE. Many patients recovers completely from Hepatitis A within some months. It may take up to 6 months for all signs and symptoms to dissapear. But some people symptoms may return or develop serious complications, in rare cases people above 50 years of age and those that suffers from another liver disease.
Once YOU fully recover from HEPATITIS A you’re IMMUNE to the VIRUS but you may still contract other types of VIRAL HEPATITIS.

These are how YOU can be infected with HEPATITIS A:
- Eating food cooked by infected person, after such person did not wash his or her hands after using the toilet and change diapers.

- Sitting next to an infected person.

This leads to deposition of iron that increases the sufferers chances of liver damage. Hepatitis A can be prevented by:
- Getting Hepatitis A vaccine: this vaccine function by enabling your body to produce antibodies which will prevent you from coming into contact with the virus. However, no vaccine can be 100% effective or guaranteed.
- Having safer sex.
- Not eating raw or not properly cooked shellfish, raw salads, vegetables and fruits that may have been washed in dirty water.

- Avoiding unpasteurized milk, cheese, ice cream and host of other diary products.

Hepatitis A Natural Treatments
(1) PHYLLANTHUS AMARUS / PHYLLANTHUS NIRURI (Eyin olobe, Ehinbisowo, Yin olobe in Yoruba; Stone breaker in English; Iyeke in Urhobo; Buchi oro, Ngwu, Eyinkonwa in Igbo; Oyomokeso amanke edem in Efik; Geroon – tsuntsaaye in Hausa) it is effective in dealing with Hepatitis A. Boil this plant. Drink 250 ml of the tea decoction two times a day.
OR: Obtain fresh leaves of PHYLLANTHUS AMARUS or PHYLLANTHUS NIRURI crush it and extract it juice. Take 2 tablespoons two times a day.
(2) TARAXACTUM OFFICINALE (Dandelion in English; Ewe Odu in Yoruba) Prepare tea infusion of this plant. Drink 250 ml two times a day.
OR: You may add slightly boil Dandelion in your diet.
OR: Wash it thoroughly with clean water. Cut the fresh leaves into slices. Take it in form of salad.
(3) CARDUS MARIANUS (Milk thistle in English; Efo yan-rin in Yoruba) Milk thistle contains Vitamin P known as silimarin. It contains flavonoids and has effect on liver cells. It also contains anti-inflammatory properties that aid in the detoxification of the liver. Obtain fresh Milk thistle leaves. Wash it properly with salt water. After that, rinse thoroughly with clean water. Take it raw in inform of salad.
OR: You may slightly boil fresh Milk thistle leaves in your diet.
OR: Wash the fresh leaves with salt water to kill the germs. After that rinse the leaves with clean water. Then cut them in to slices. Take inform of salad.
(4) TURMERIC (Iblue in Urhobo; Atale pupa in Yoruba; Gigir in Tiv; Nwandumo, Ohuboboch in Igbo; Kurkur in Hausa) Take half tablespoon of Turmeric. Boil it in 250 ml water. Strain and drink when it is cool. Do it twice a day.
OR: You may include Turmeric in your diet.
